Stephen Smith

Product Manager and Product Designer

I’m a senior product manager with a product design background. For the past seven years, I’ve helped build Crunchr, a people analytics SaaS used by teams at Booking, Randstad, Arcadis, MetLife, and many more. I’ve owned discovery and design across the product, from the data foundations (metrics, fields, data models) to the AI and analytics experiences they enable. I enjoy the fuzzy, early work most — synthesising a messy problem into an initial direction, then moving quickly to prototyping testable solutions.

Crunchr as decision support system

Crunchr is a people analytics platform that turns an org’s scattered HR data into a clear picture of its workforce. As product manager and product designer, I’ve helped shape Crunchr into an intuitive tool that HR and business leaders rely on to guide decisions about their people.

Drill-down on any data point

In Crunchr, you can click on any data point to drill-down and view the definition, trend, drivers, and employees behind the number. For HR teams whose HRIS made that either impossible or painfully slow, it feels like magic. I designed this panel as Crunchr’s first design hire.

Intuitive report builder

The drag-and-drop dashboard builder enables HR teams to quickly build beautiful reports. We took care to give enough flexibility to tell powerful stories about the data, while keeping the experience as simple as possible.

Driver analysis

Driver analysis lets users quickly find which segments are driving a metric like turnover, reducing the dependency for these types of analyses on specialised analysts.

Conversational analytics and MCP

Ask Crunchr enables HR and business leaders to ask a data question about their people and get an immediate answer. I worked with design and engineering to ship the capability for it to understand the data it presents, enabling users to have full ‘data dialogues’.
